Maracatu Rural or Maracatu do Baque Loose is a folkloric manifestation created over a hundred years ago by farmers and sugarcane cutters from the municipality of Nazaré da Mata, a small municipality in the rural area of the State of Pernambuco, in northeastern Brazil.
During the weeks before the carnival, I was with members of several maracatu groups, visiting their homes and following some performances in the city of Nazaré da Mata, I was impressed how their lives revolve around this cultural manifestation and how they preserve this heritage without waiting nothing in return.
